Announcing Episode #9: 01/07/12

14 Dec

Yes, we’re now in the throes of the holiday season, but soon it will be over.  We’ve got a FMC date picked for when they’ve past…

Jan. 7th.  Saturday.  2012.  Check your calendars.

Back to the old format:  Eight people, each randomly assigned to cook and serve one of eight beverage-paired courses.

Have a look at the current list of theme ideas.  Sign up for the event and nominate a theme from the list, or suggest something new.  Once the table is filled, we’ll put up a poll of nominated themes, and resign ourselves to cook the will of the FMC at large.

I’m thinking: keep it simple.  Take a deep breath.  My theme nomination is:

Homage to Kozy Shack rice pudding (milk, rice, sugar, eggs, salt, vanilla): No dish can use more than six ingredients.

But I’m just one of 8.

PS: Spanish Chorizo is done (and delicious), which means the Meat Locker is free for the time being if anyone wants to use it. Also, check out the Batterie de Cuisine, there have been a few purchases and acquisitions: knives, cavatelli maker, and a torchio press.  Available for your cooking pleasure.

what–no “ideal republican candidate” theme option? idea is that something formerly dead and repulsive (other than butchered meat or fish) is magically revived by the addition of _____ (heat? moisture? flavoring agents? bad press about the dish before it?).

The only pot-stirring going on here is soup, sauce, or stock. The FMC blissfully remains forever politically, metabolically, and electrochemically neutral.

Oh, and I vote for Foods We Feel Sorry For. (Poor liver and onions. She used to be a staple; she’s so ignored now. Or that lame little unloved cauliflower. Meh.)

i am thinking the theme should be “over the top menu items that one wanted to attempt for the holidays, but never got around to. calories be damned, we start the new year’s diet in february.

Yay! Please count Laurent & I in-he will (hopefully) be in town if US customs allows. I was going to ask for a FMC in his honor. This way he has something of substance to tell the officers as to why he should be allowed in our great country. I will get back to you in the theme-just want to secure a spot for now.

      • joanna December 14, 2011 at 7:30 pm #

what about a theme of “moderation” things that taste so good that you won’t believe they’re healthy… A quinoa salad, tuna tartare, a barley dish…. and then the chefs can stray in whatever direction they want…. Because when you think about it all food is healthy in the right proportion. I firmly believe that chocolate and ice cream are healthy because they have often saved me from losing my mind!

If there is room for 2 rookies, then we are in. Our vote is split: World Peace vs Old School
